Introduction to Sailing
Introduction to sailing is taught at Gray's Lake Park on Hobie Waves. Let this short evening course be the beginning of your sailing journey as you learn some terminology and the basics of sailing.
You'll get a chance to try sailing in a safe fun environment under the guidance of a US Sailing Certified Instructor. Boats are available to rent free on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Who should take this course?
You must be 18 years of age or older to take this course. Students under the age of 18, but over the age of 15, must have a parent or guardian accept the SYCSS agreements and waivers to take this course. A parent or guardian must contact SYCSS at firstname.lastname@example.org for instructions to register a minor for this course.
Comfortable in and around the water and an eagerness to get on a sailboat!
This course is a quick and easy way to determine if sailing is for you. If it is, our Level 1 courses are a great way to continue your learning.
How will I spend my time?
This course provides an opportunity to sail Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Monday night will include about 30 minutes of classroom instruction, a brief capsize recovery drill, and the remainder of the evening on the water. Tuesday through Thursday the boats will be available for use without an instructor present for practice. Boats are available to rent free Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
What should I bring?
Clothes appropriate for sailing (expect to get wet), towel and change of clothes, proper, closed toe shoes, sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses with Croakie.
$75 which includes a life jacket and boat rental for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evening.
